Insurance notes for Piedmont & OKC
This blog is for people in Piedmont and the greater OKC metro who want plain answers on health coverage, life insurance, and Medicare — before they sit down with a licensed agent.
I'm Sung Kang, a licensed insurance agent with HealthMarkets Insurance - The Kang Agency. These posts are educational. They are not a substitute for looking at your own doctors, drugs, income, and enrollment windows together.
“Buy term and invest the difference” is incomplete
BTID only wins if you invest the difference. Term, whole life, and IUL fill different jobs — not the same spreadsheet row.
Cash-value life is a safe sleeve — not a stock substitute
Mature permanent cash value is closer to a bond-like buffer than an S&P clone. Whole life and IUL are different designs.
Why some retirees use permanent life as permission to spend
A crash buffer plus a death-benefit floor can ease underspending — for high-asset households, not as a 401(k) substitute.
Retiring before 65 does not start Medicare
Medicare starts at 65. Retiring at 62 leaves a gap — Marketplace, spouse coverage, and COBRA fit different households differently.
COBRA can keep your doctors. It can also be expensive.
Premium, deductible progress, network, and prescriptions — compare before you treat COBRA as automatic.
Turning 65 while still working changes the Part B clock
Employer or spouse coverage can change timing. Don't use a COBRA end date alone. A quiet review beats a scramble later.
Medicare Advantage and Medigap are not interchangeable
Travel, specialists, and predictable costs versus a low premium — there isn't a universal winner.
